A daily budget of €10-€40 is a choice. One day of work in Australia funds my entire weekly trip.
My Car Rental Experience in Tenerife
- Cost: Rentals via DiscoverCars start at ~€20/week. Plan your travel window for maximum savings. To avoid unnecessary desk fees, follow my Rental Excess Insurance Guide.
- Vehicle Audit: SEAT Arona. Recommended. Sufficient power for steep inclines and four passengers. Avoid the absolute cheapest rental classes – they will struggle on Tenerife’s hilly terrain.
- Tolls: None in Tenerife.
- Fuel: Cheaper than mainland Spain (and most of Europe) due to lower taxes. Prices in February 2026 hovered as low as €1/L. Use Google Maps to check real-time local fuel prices.
- Parking: Generally free. Trailheads do not charge, but can get very busy, arrive early to save yourself a headache. Use Google Maps to find free parking in cities.
Budget Accommodation in Tenerife
- Going Off-Season: Fewer tourists, lower prices. February cut our apartment cost nearly in half compared to summer rates.
- New Listings: Fresh properties often run launch discounts to build reviews. That’s how we got a decent apartment for ~€55/night (split four ways).
- One Base: Tenerife is small enough to drive end-to-end in under two hours. We stayed in one reasonably central spot the whole 8 days. No repacking hassle and cheaper.
- Flights: Ryanair and Wizz Air offer plenty of flights as low as €15-€20 to mainland Spain, Morocco or the UK.
